Aug. 23rd, 2008 05:27 pmHaving just watched & thoroughly enjoyed Timelash (a 6th Doctor adventure chock-full of classic sci-fi references, up to and including "To be perfectly Frank, Herbert"; and guest-starring a deliciously panto-villainy Paul Darrow), I am now listening to Jack FM because it plays half-decent music (so far, Pink Floyd, old-school Queen, and a decent amount of generic 80s rock) but mainly because Paul Darrow does the inter-track voiceovers. I'm also wondering whether there have been any other fics written in the universe of The Machiavelli Factor, because I'd very much like to read them, but the internet is not being overly forthcoming on this topic.
Basically, if there are any thoughts that aren't in some way about Kerr Avon, I'm not having them.
Well, that is slightly unfair. I have also been to
the_mousehoule, my house for the next year, although I can't move in properly yet because the landlord is taking up my floorboards (!) at some indeterminate time next week. Even though I only paid a flying visit, I felt pretty much immediately like it was somewhere I could be very happy.
chiasmata and
loneraven look to be great, if hard-working, housemates, but then again I suppose I'll have to be working hard next year, too.. Trying to get the tenancy agreement sorted, a lot of faff with the letting agency and traipsing around town ensued, but I did receive the pleasant surprise that the council owes
gin_gerkitten,
sugar_and_space, and myself, a decently-sized council tax rebate! And then I went to visit
liminereid,
frank_snow, and
lemuel_condy in their gorgeous new flat in Shepherd's Bush (which is a lot further from my house than I thought it was, which resulted in my rather embarrassingly missing the last train home, but they were lovely enough to put me up). They're on the fourth floor, and have an almost 180-degree view of London rooftops. A lovely place to sit for sunset and gin, and so grown-up.. not a student house at all.
So I have done a lot of things to shake out the no-funding disappointment. Hell, I even had a job interview that went "Oh, you worked at the SSL? You weren't involved in that great video, were you? We were thinking about putting it on our website!". Next year is going to be a hell of a slog, now, but I a confident that I am up to it.

Ohhhh.... wow! That story is an incredible achievement. I put off starting it because it looked like such a tome, but once I'd started I could not put it down, and my first impulse when I got to the end was to want even more!
Re: wow, I'm slow..
Date: 2008-08-24 07:21 am (UTC)It was written a long time ago - early eighties - but it was extensively revised for the Waveney publication. You wouldn't think the emotional stuff had been toned down, would you, but it has, it has!
In early B7 fandom I wrote as Lillian Shepherd, Lisa York (one fanzine), and Ermentrude Postlewaite-Smythe (EPS) - the last being reserved for the heavy wallow (angst) and slash in other fandoms. I'm still known as Lil to a lot of people from that era, and have continued to use the name practically everywhere! (Though it got spelled slightly differently in
Edited because I fail at LJ user names.
