Lewis S02E03
Mar. 13th, 2008 10:07 pmIf you have ninety minutes left to live, take my advice, and spend them watching Life Born of Fire.
I laughed, I cried, I screamed at my laptop.
Queer Oxford. Dripping in Christian symbolism. Mystery. Ritual. Angst. Love is never wrong.
Oh, and the fucking Firebird!
I think I broke at around the time that the boorish alcoholic builder screamed "My boy! My beautiful gay son!", and never really recovered my composure from that point on. As soon as Lewis said "we can rule out half of the human race - it's XY" I knew what was coming, and screamed it at my laptop for the last 30 minutes. HATHAWAY YOU GREAT BIG QUEER I LOVE YOU. With your neatly explaining bisexuality for the Daily Mail readers, and your seminary past, and your love, and your angst. And Zoe! You are batshit crazy but you are Rachael Stirling and did they just cast you for your "giveaway" voice? I liked the incongruous fringe, best way to hide a receding hairline, a great touch. And the fire! The fire and the symbolism and the epic, epic, EPIC rightness of it all. I don't care. It is art.
Ah-ha - apparently it was written by the same chap who wrote Age of Steel / Rise of the Cybermen. And he's young, very young, born in the 1980s. Oh, just look at him! I will write him a fan letter, methinks.
