The 4th Doctor explains: "She was found floating down the amazon in a hatbox."

Pathologist: "A Hatbox?"

When I was a kid, I used to think that if you were a gay man, you would pursue relationships with gay women. I think I thought that gay men wished they were women, and gay women wished they were men, so the two in a relationship worked within a heteronormative paradigm - or something equally odd. I have no idea where this belief came from.

What did you used to believe that now makes no sense to you at all?

When I was a wee lass I was convinced that you were only allowed to get married if your eyes were the same colour as those of the person you were marrying, due to some kind of warped understanding of the fact that you inherited your eye colour from your parents. I couldn't conceive of what would happen if the two eye colours that went into making you were different, so I assumed it must be not allowed, to avoid confusion.
