Are there any other songs in the world quite like Suzanne by Leonard Cohen?

Tell me, that I may search out and obtain them, for verily I am need of more things this soul-soothing.

I don't know whether this only works for me cos of the context in which I got it and the sentiment behind that, but:

"How to save a life" by The Fray.

The US import album comes out on Monday, but Virgin will sell it to you now for £9 - you do have to ask a nice man to go upstairs and fetch it for you though :P

Otherwise the UK album comes out in a few weeks.

But I loved it so much that I went to get the album today. "How to save a life" is the title track.

Hear hear.
It's an absolutely, completely, utterly, totally amazing, FANTASTIC album.
I could not recommend it enough.

In terms of elegies-for-magical-women, I'm currently stuck on this cover (http://www.sendspace.com/file/eb3w0h) of Ruby Tuesday, as housemates will be able to attest...am sure there are more but am away from home and itunes and unable to think.

Bah, Emma, tell me I'm not wasting all my opportunities by not applying for sarah lawrence. It's not even laziness/ohtheywon'twantmeanyway, I've been looking at the website and squealing for a week and still can't think of a project proposal for their courses...but it feels like a shameful waste all the same.

ooh, and this song is pretty - piano! vocal harmony! accents! am putting it in my leonard cohen folder so it gets played along with him.

i have a greatest-hits type cohen album, with chelsea hotel & famous blue raincoat, etc. always loved chelsea hotel best but have recently fallen in love with suzanne.

whoever selects for the sarah lawrence thing are fuckwits anyway, as they let academically unadventurous dull people go rather than laurie. so if you wanted to go, you'd have to fake dull; staying in Oxford and being fabulous is a much better use of your time.

and, wow - i'd got so used to downloading episodes of things from sendspace-like sites that i almost fell out of bed when i saw the song download speeding like that!

The thing is, they have cool courses on things I am interested in from the perspectives of different disciplines. It would be good to spend a term there; three weeks? I have no clue what can be done in three weeks using those courses. Blah.

Do you know who got to go in your year? TELL ME SO I CAN FACEBOOK THEM AND BITCH WITH. Pleeease, I'm supposed to be reading economics articles and wasting time is more fun.

My google-fu reliably informs me that it was Matthew Moseley, Ezra Wallace, Navid Pourghazi, Lily Friend and Karmjit Kaur.

hmm, most of them are hiding their facebooks from me. hiding from employers? that's actually a very good idea, isn't it, i mean, my facebook leads right here...

I've only even heard of Matt and Navid. Therefore everyone else sucks, it's not that I'm a college recluse with no social skillz, nooooo.

you've heard of two non-friend people who aren't in your year?

don't think i could say that for myself... you can take the "college recluse" title once i've left, dammit!

Not sure about similarity, as i've not heard the song in question, but for soul soothing music i find there's nothing quite like the 'Deep' and Cascades' Albums by peter murphy.

Especially tracks like subway, cascade, marlene dietrich's favourite poem and I'll fall with your knife.
