Nov. 14th, 2006 07:42 pmthere are three things in life more important to me than any others.
they are me, ashley, and my laptop.
they are all broken.
i can't fix any of them.
i'm going to call in some favours, i hope no-one minds:
-
lizziwig, may i please borrow your DVD of House? (if
steerpikelet's currently watcing it, can I please at least have it for Friday night / Saturday?)
- anyone with a laptop they no longer use, now is the time to come out of the woodwork and say "here, have this one!". PC World point blank refuse to touch mine, said "uh.. you might want to try a laptop specialist?" but couldn't tell me where to find one other than "on the Cowley Road". I know what's wrong with it - I've lost the pin from where the power cable plugs in to the machine. Apparently this is a Big Fucking Deal. I'm going to try the place on Magdalen Rd tomorrow, and perhaps MCM computers on my way back. (I think that's the name the PC World guy mentioned, but I've not heard anything good about them.) Ahaha! Turns out it's still under warranty, but that the warranty card says it doesn't cover "damage to breakable parts". As anything that is broken is, by it's very nature, necessarily breakable, does this really mean that my laptop warranty is meaningless?
- anyone with any audiobooks in Oxford, in either CD or tape form, may I borrow them? (
chrisvenus, if you're finished with your American Gods CDs, I might really like to borrow them around now)
- when I cease to be able to cope with any of this, and inevitably implode, please make sure they don't have a religious ceremony.

Date: 2006-11-15 10:36 am (UTC)audiobook-wise - Discworld would always make me a happy Emma, but don't put yourself out; I'm getting some burned CDs from Laura & Chris so I am not in urgent need.
you're a star.

Date: 2006-11-15 10:30 am (UTC)In general, I am very pro-Johnny Depp... but in this instance he may not be of use as DVD-watching can't happen in my room now that I am laptopless.
However, if it's a film I haven't seen, I may ask Ashley to interrupt the marathon for the watching of the pretty...

Date: 2006-11-14 11:18 pm (UTC)I do have an old laptop that I no longer want/use, but trust me you don't want it either ... it was giving me messages like 'your hard drive is permanently corrupted', which was why i had to get a new one. plus it only runs very verry slow windows 98 and is in london with me, otherwise you would be welcome to try it.

Date: 2006-11-15 10:19 am (UTC)I think I'm going to send it back to the manufacturer, rather than get anyone else to fix it; my dad has told me it's still under warranty!

Date: 2006-11-15 12:23 am (UTC)I own none of the things you're looking for.
But, if I could help, I would. And if you think of something I can do, I'll do it.

Date: 2006-11-15 10:25 am (UTC)which are the most important life-changing gripping story-ones? The Doctor Who grabs my attention immediately, Jon Stewart sounds interesting, I loved Le Petit Prince when I ws a pretentious french student.. Hugh Laurie and Tim Curry reading audiobooks sounds like something I ought to experience...
I think the best of the Doctor Who is my priority, But mostly, I trust your judgement, and a couple of CDs of Stuff Laura Says Is Good would make chilling out without a laptop a lot more possible. Thank you.
(looking at your list thing, in return I can lend you my copy of a brilliant Bowie live album you don't seem to have - it's from about 2000? Essentially he just turned the bass up. I love it.)

Date: 2006-11-15 10:53 am (UTC)Also, I am working on filmising Neverwhere. I could burn that for you if you want a digimally remastered version.
Hope things get better for you and Ashley, I'm sure they will sooner than you expect. She was nice about selling me a book so I left her positive feedback on ebay.
