Oh, Oxford.

I just saw Colin Dexter outside the Randolph, talking to a Lewis cameraman. He's quite short in real life. And doesn't look as much like a child molester as his biog photo seems to suggest. Next corner I turn, I'm expecting to run into Oscar Wilde.

(I have one of those cheap woven cotton braclets on, you know the type, with "meaningful initials" sewn through.. but I got out my needle and thread, and now it says W.W.O.D.)

Now, I know I have at least one Oxford librarian on my flist, and probably a lot of people who just Know These Things.. how does one become a Bodleian Bookstack Goblin (and do they have a real name that isn't that)? Do they really just run around underground fetching and carrying books, or is it part of a job that entails greater responsibility?

Wish I had just a bit more commitment to the revision I'm attempting to do..

It'd be just fetching and carrying books, checking them in and out of the stack &c. You'd need to look on the university green pages for adverts, I'd send you a link but I'm on a course right now...

Colin Dexter is a fellow (by special resolution) of my college. [/smug] He is indeed very very small, and half deaf, which makes him seem a dirtier old man than I think he intends -- not, I stress, that I don't think he intends to be a bit dirty. But if you're talking to him and you happen to be sitting on the side with his bad ear, he'll lean closer and hold on to your arm and twist around so he can hear you with his good ear, which has the added benefit for him of bringing his face to within about six inches of your chest.
