why not add my voice to the chorus of oxonian ljers bitching about having to pack their lives up into little boxes? by friday i need to have removed all evidence that i ever existed here. there will be no more pansexual house of love. but it's been good, hasn't it?
i've been without her for a whole year, and i haven't missed her at all, but she'll still be there to greet me when i get home: my london-self. the one who watches television other than downloaded episodes of doctor who. the one who, in fact, watches trashy music videos for songs she can't stand rather than get up off the sofa. the one without initiative, without purpose, without motivation. the fat one, the ugly one, the friendless one. she occupies my body and, in changing its context, changes its adjectives. i swear, every time i go home, that i don't want to see her this time... but i always do.
i will be commuting to oxford, i will be going to edinburgh, i am trying to arrange voluntary work for Stonewall, i will sell my possessions on ebay for money; if i take on any paid work it will only be for urgent necessity and it will only be temping - no more barracudas sucking my soul.
i will write my practical report with my insightful statistical analysis. i will revise language acquisition and ace my collection. i will study knowledge & reality now that i have figured out how philosphy works. i have three months to fill, and so many ideas to fill them with; maybe, this time, she'll stay away?
Have just found out that I'm to be doing a month's voluntary work with the gay rights charity Stonewall, yays!
A month's zone 1-4 travelcard costs £121.40, which is a lot of money on my student budget. An oystercard single between the zones costs £2.50 between 7 and 7: so commuting to work would cost me £5 per day. I would, therefore, have to make 25 return journeys before the travelcard actually saves me money: and working 3-4 weeks I'll only make 15-20 return journeys (£75-£100). And bear in mind that many Friday evenings & Monday mornings I won't be getting on the tube at all, but the Oxford tube, as, yes, Stonewall's offices are in Grovsenor Gardens, right at the end of the Oxford Tube route! Even with the likelihood that I'll spend many evenings visiting friends and the like, it's still cheaper to travel daily than to buy a (supposedly) more economical travelcard. Madness, I tell you!
