Well, yes, I am finally getting around to reading Dorothy L Sayers. And I do love Harriet Vane for all the reasons that you told me I would, flist.

Only.. None of you mentioned how deliciously kinky this is!

[spoilers for Gaudy Night]

An hour of al fresco breath play in an Oxfordshire field, followed by a collaring?!

Consider me purring. It's taken two-and-a-half books for Harriet and Peter to be able to interact like equals, and THIS is the first thing they do? <3

Are you considering watching the 80s adaptations, btw? They can move sooooo slowly and some of the bit-part actors are painful, but Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Walter are just wonderful. The scene from HIC starting at 7:40 in this clip and continuing into the next clip is just about one of my favourite things to watch evar, oh, them.

(Also the little exchange from 7:50 here - OH THEM. I always want to make an animated gif of Peter coming through the door but don't know how.)

Yes, although this book seemed to rather skimp on the mystery in order to focus on being evocative of Oxford and people and relationships. I'm trying to decide if I like that balance or not.. I did so like all the non-mystery elements, but I'm sure that others of these books have excelled at both types of development. Perhaps it is simply the lack of a corpse which is disconcerting me!

(Or I may just have been lucky to fix my suspicions to the right person very early on, and then spend the rest of the book seeing clues with a "well, obviously..")

See you later? I could certainly be up for meeting a little earlier to discuss these issues in person...
