adj.
1. Difficult to manage or govern; stubborn.
2. Difficult to alleviate, remedy, or cure.
I've started using the word intractable to describe myself a lot, I thought it was only fair to look it up.
But what else could explain why, rather than check to see whether the boy i asked to pay my cheque in has done so when the accounts office claim not to have it, i just write them another with a note on the back saying "please don't pay both in" which they promptly ignore and end up with charges from my bank for a cheque they couldn't pay. Yes, actually, more work than just e-mailing the boy in question.
And why else would I, when I get a part in a play in 8th week, the same week I am supposed to be production-managing Hedwig, fail to inform the director of said rock & roll musical, and instead leave it 'til a pre-production meeting with less than three weeks to go to let him know that, depending on his requirements of me, I may not be able to fulfil them? Yes, creating lots of angst for him if he needs to find a last-minute production manager, and lots of angst for me if I've blown my one chance at proper Oxford drama through intractability.
