A MuggleNet reader who is the librarian at her daughter's school today received a copy of the "Publishers Quality Library Service" catalog. She said there is an ad in it for pre-ordering copies of Book 6 that says: "With something huge revealed about Lily Potter, the truth about why Dumbledore trusts Snape, and a little romance for Harry, this promises to be one of his best years at Hogwarts yet."

can i really be the only one who is still not over her days at the sugarquill, where everything was theories and plot arcs and forshadowing and hints and red herrings? am i really the only one who still cares whether Neville will kill Voldemort or die in book 6? of course not. but perhaps i am the only one who compulsively refreshes mugglenet three or four times an hour.

I think Neville will kill Voldemort and that Harry will die. But then again I also view Remus and Sirius as canonical as Molly and Arthur, so YMMV.

oh, i agree about remus & sirius. i see them as canonical to the degree that i believe jkr intended them to be ambiguously coupley.

however, i have changed my mind about neville. i did think, as soon as he was revealed as sharing harry's birthday, "ahh, but he was also marked by the torture of his parents... perhaps his forgetfullness is all part of a memory charm meant to protect him from those horrendous childhood memories, and that's the mark of which the prophecy speaks. and even if he's not been 'marked' yet, harry's death will make him voldie's nemesis by default". but then i realised, everybody was coming to that conclusion. i wasn't being quite as clever as i thought. and then i thought jkr might be pulling off the biggest red herring since agatha christie, and i got very excited indeed. if neville is the big character death we're promised in book 6, i would be very impressed with jkr as an author.

well that was a rambly and mildly incomprehensible comment!

*punch in the gut*

Oh my. Never thought about Neville like that. I think I've predicted Dumbledore as the big character death - or, if there is a God, Hagrid. It'd be so brilliant if it were Neville. Oh man. I am just not sure that JKR is that devious?

i change my mind practically daily. she certainly knows exactly where she's going: references to sirius black in book 1, 'the lovegoods' in book 4, a thousand little things... and she's certainly done character red herrings before, just look at quirrel and snape. but i just don't know. that's why debating and theorising is so fun!

((i'd certainly like hagrid to go, but then i said that before book 5 as well.))

WEll, you *are* talking to someone who left her brain at the door and was surprised to find that REMUS. LUPIN. was a werewolf. Yes, really. That is probably my most embarrassing story as a reader.

I'd like JKR to bump off a few Weasleys too. Mwahahaha.

i didn't get lupin either, but i forgive myself because i was only 13. (does that make you feel old or me feel young? unsure.) i remember thinking what an unusual name remus was, and remembering the whole romulus and remus thing, and wondering if he had a brother... but the wolf thing never got a look in.

i don't mind the weasleys. or hermione - there's a lot of inexplicable hermione-hate around as well. i just hate hagrid with the fire of 1,000 burning suns, and get easily irritated by the ghosts. umbridge i don't count, because we're meant to hate her.

*coughs* .. I was .. a bit older than 13. I should have caught it, let me put it like that.

I don't mind the Weasleys either but I am a bit of a sadist. Plus there are so many of 'em.

*grinning inanely*

Surely we can draw all these speculations into one delightful conclusion:

Snape was in love with Lily (huge revelation), is now in love with Harry (romance) as the next-generation-embodiment of Lily, and Dumbledore found his teaching notebook with poems about how lovely Harry is (ergo trusts him).

Am I too simplistic and slashful in my approach to these things? *grin*

((PS: If any of that is true I will eat pages 1-15 in book 6))
((PPS: with the possible exception of SS/LE, because the fan world seems to like that idea. personally i think it's bollocks, but i'm not ingesting paper if i turn out to be wrong))

Simple. And remarkably shiny.

I'm going to have to turn half these forsaken plot bunnies into pie soon aren't I . . .
