May. 20th, 2004 11:36 pm'fraid i'm going to have to disagree with you all about troy. i managed to overlook cardboardio bloom and actually found myself enjoying the film. (apart from the fact that the sun kept rising in the west. which was just downright annoying.) and i am reliably informed (by somebody who has read more then just a couple of chapters of the iliad) that it is actually surprisingly faithful to the text. i found some bits honestly moving. and achilles/patroclus was not edited out so much as made subtextual - a gift to the slashers, i'm sure. and there was naked brad pitt, to which i was just like 'uhhh... whatever. oh look! pretty petulant slave girl!'
in other news, last day in uniform today. got water bombed a couple of times but nothing too serious. and then we spelled out 'we love mr royall' with our bodies, taking pics on yasmine's digital cam, to make him a goodbye card.
*yawns*
oh well, off to bedfordshire...

Date: 2004-05-26 12:32 am (UTC)i'm standing by the fact that i liked it. so what if agamemnon and menelaus shouldn't have died? (in fact, i am SO gald they twisted it to have briseis kill agamemnon BECAUSE I NEEDED TO SEE THAT.) so what if the fact that paris lives makes it a BIT tricky for aeneas to be the one leading the trojans away from the wreck of their city?
and they didn't leave out the gay. they just made it subtextual. and it's not like homer wrote, 'and then they had lots of kinky rabbit sex on the floor of achilles' tent'. the gay is there if you want it to be - sad but true, the way hollywood is going to reach the maximum number of people.
as recompense, perhaps, apparently the tagline to aelxander is going to be: 'bisexual warlord conquers the world'.
