home from france now. with a spiffy new lj background.

picardie was like the lake district with cathedrals. got very dull after a couple of days.

i did, however, get to go to paris, and eat cucumber sandwiches by oscar wilde's tomb! it was quite covered in lipstick kisses, i felt that a stragnely fitting tribute. i know there are those amongst you who know more about wilde than i do, it it is to those of you that i now pose a question: where are robbie ross's ashes? i'm sure that, in the epilogue text at the end of stephen fry's wilde, it states that ross' ashes are with wilde's. but there was no mention of this in the cemetery.

i picked up a CD on a chance reference i remembered from some lj community - the ark, in lust we trust. and, wow. i shall rant more about it at a later date, but be aware: The Ark = HippyBoyGlamGasm

1. Clea DuVall = OMG!!11FUCKING HOT!!!1

2. I ate ice cream beside Wilde's tomb a few years ago, too. It does feel spiffy to be there, doesn't it?

3. The Ark - whoohoo! Swedish glam boys. So camp and so cool. Can you buy their cds in France?! I'm all proud now.

1. it's actually christina ricci (oh, i made the assumption you were talking about my background... but i just realised clea is in my icon), but as i agree with you about both of them i can't really make a point of it.

2. i'd seen so many pictures, it felt almost unreal. but really really special. it was raining but in a strange way that added to the atmosphere.

3. well, i got it in a second-hand store in the student quarter. but it was, indeed, the ark in france.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. I am very envious of your visit to Mr. Wilde's final resting place. As for Ross's ashes, I've read in several biographies that they are interred along with Oscar's, but it is strange that no mention is made of him on the monument.

Ross's ashes were buried somewhere else and later moved to Wilde's tomb.

In 1950, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Wilde's death, the ashes of Wilde's devoted friend Robert Ross were, according to his own wishes, placed in the monument together with those of Wilde. from here (http://home.arcor.de/oscar.wilde/biography/epstein.htm) (scroll down)

I am, of course, mighty jealous. I've read a few Ross biographies and all say that when Ross was overlooking the design of Oscar's monument, he made arrangements for a small chamber to be included so at his death, his ashes could be added (therefore being able to finally be with Oscar, it made me cry the first time I learnt that). There were some crazy reasons for his ashes not being immediately placed there, the details I cannot remember.
