yes, well, back to school. that was fun. mediocre. boring. eye-gougingly dull. i have a classics mock tomorrow. greek/roman epic and aristophanes. and am i revising for it?

had an arguement with my physics set about whether or not sam gamgee was 'gay'. i tried to explain that yes, i did know that sam got married and had lots of kids which meant he had sex with a woman, but that this in itself did not forbid him to have lots and lots of loff for frodo.

and as for the boy who claimed to be a mega expert on lord of the rings (hell, he's even read the silmarillion!) claimed i was talking crap when i said that sam followed frodo across the sea. 'any fool knows, it finishes with sam saying "i'm back"' he tells me.

well, i guess any fool would think that, to be able to proclaim oneself as an expert, one would have to have read the appendices, wouldn't one...

we had to introduce ourselves to our new english teacher by making 3 statements which described us - yes, it did make us all feel 12 years old - but one of my statements was 'i believe sam and frodo share the purest and most beautiful and pure love in literature, be it platonic or sexual'

got a laugh from the class (it wasn't a comic statement!) but summed me up very nicely.

the idea was, we said two things that were true and one that wasn't, and the class had to guess which one was untrue. the above is, obviously, true. see if you can guess which of these is untrue:

- when i was 15 i slept by oscar wilde's monument in a paris cemetery.

- i play the drum kit, piano, glockenspiel, recorder, timpani, and i sing.

but no, the truth is that i have never done that, but i do play all those instruments. but not all at once.

Damn. That would have been something to see. I have, at one time or another, played piano, recorder, drums, guitar and the triangle - and failed at all of them. (If you're wondering about the triangle, it would always spin around and i'd never be able to make contact between the...um...stick thingy and the triangle thingy.)

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to get through the Sil. I always start it and then get disinterested. So, really, for someone to have READ it and STILL not know that Sam follows Frodo over the sea....*shakes head* idiot.

i've started reading it a couple of times, but my heart's never really been in it. it starts with this really pretty creation myth and then, it all just kinda tails off...

besides, i took my copy of RotK in and proved him wrong. that shouldn't feel so good i'm sure, but it just does!
