There is a strong arc in the sense of world-building, and I certainly got a lot out of this slow development / slow revelation of more and more relevant detail. There are also a few plot points which, IMO, work best as surprises.
That said, almost all of the episodes are completely stand-alone. There's probably nothing wrong with trying out the episodes which happen to be on Virgin Media to see if they grab you!
