So here I am on dreamwidth.

Oh, I knew all of wider political reasons to come here - how it's closer to my original idea of LJ, run by-fans, for-fans; how it's free from advertising and creepy privacy issues; how it won't delete rape-survivor communities for scaring advertisers. I've been cyber-squatting [personal profile] sebastienne since the launch, and was always intending to come over here and get things sorted out.

But it was [personal profile] annalytica who gave me the final push. She linked to this diversity policy, and I was smitten.

So please add me if you're over here! I'll be cross-posting to LJ for a while, at least, but I've felt in need of a new journalling start for a while now.

September is, of course, the time of new starts for me; and this year is no different, with an entirely new pace of life. A job that I have to work hard at, that I need to sleep nine hours before and after; but that I only have to do four days a week. A cohabitation, which is not a way of living I've tried before; and in a basement flat on a flood plain. There's a prodigious combined collection of Doctor Who DVDs, and it feels like home in a way I've never experienced before.

Some things never change, though; and my over-use of semi-colons is just one of the irritating habits I'm going to carry over here from LiveJournal. It feels right to be here, though, in this house, on dreamwidth, in a jumper in the rain. It'll be ok.

It was the diversity policy that sold me on it, too. It's so. I just. /touches it adoringly

/WELCOMES YOU ON BOARD??

I'm * on LJ. I post different sorts of things here on DW though and I actually try to keep the two somewhat separate. I don't know if you really want to follow me but you're quite welcome to if you do.

Yeah, that's a really nicely done policy. A community I'm involved with tried to put together a similar statement. Unfortunately, it didn't come out nearly so well IMHO. If you'd like to see what happens when Dreamwidth's sincerity meets geek privilege and territoriality, have a look at http://www.python.org/psf/diversity/ :-(

I sometimes use too many semicolons; I wonder where one can legitimately use braces in prose though.

I should probably start making an effort with DW - it's weird what's happened to my level of interaction online with people I don't spend significant amounts of time around in person these days, what happened to spending hours on usenet?

Hooray! This feels oddly symmetrical, since I joined LJ at your suggestion 2 years ago.

Can I ask unintelligent questionage? I don't use LJ to write, but I do watch a lot of people from my LJ account (thanks, RPG from the past!). Is that what I'm doing right now? You have nice hair also

If you tell Dreamwidth to import your LJ friends, then I think they can log in using Open ID to see and comment on friends-locked posts that you've given them access to (though I'm not absolutely certain)
