This interview is quite, quite exceptional, and is very worth reading for any Rocky Horror fan or non-heteronormative person on my flist.

"All my life, I’ve been fighting never belonging, never being male or female, and it got to the stage where I couldn’t deal with it any longer. To feel you don’t belong . . . to feel insane . . . to feel perverted and disgusting . . . you go f***ing nuts. If society allowed you to grow up feeling it was normal to be what you are, there wouldn’t be a problem. I don’t think the term ‘transvestite’ or ‘transsexual’ would exist: you’d just be another human being.

I’d been fighting, going to therapy, treating what I was as though it were some kind of illness to be cured. But actually, no, I was basically transgender, and just unhappy.

I lost the plot. Paranoid delusions, the works. It was at the time when Bush and Blair ruled the f***ing world, and trying to claw my way back to sanity, I saw no standard norm. I wanted to get back to normal, but where’s the benchmark of sanity? I was drowning and couldn’t find a surface."

Oh bless his cotton socks!

There's someone I wish I could just give a big squeeze and then make a cup of tea.

That made me cry! To think the poor bloke is still suffering so much when he's helped so many thousands feel comfortable with themselves.

And 67? DAMN!

He touched me once. On the same night he allegedly snorted coke from a kitkat foil in Theo's Office (Union President's office). His hands round my waist were like ice, even in the heat of what was essentially a disco. I will never forget is. They moved like snakes.

Should I apply for the p/t job currently going at your place, or will I hate it?

Is it the evening/Saturday job, or is it an afternoon one? Either way, there will be a lot of shelving, and not as much desk time as you may like. Being used to Geac you have a definite advantage, ditto knowledge of e-resources; the two parts of the job are shelving and desk backup, plus you know LCC already so bonus. So it does depend on what you're wanting out of it, I guess. Valerie has less chance to micromanage you if you're p/t ;-) S and A make me roll my eyes a lot of the time, but they aren't nasty at all.

Every time [livejournal.com profile] jessikast and I are in Hamilton, we go to RO'B's statute, give the Transylvanian salute and recite "We pledge allegiance to the lips of the Rocky Horror Picture Show".

evening/saturday; I'm looking for additional hours to combine with my super-shiny @admin job. I am mostly looking for desk-and-shelving; but - oh! - only if I'm allowed headphones while I'm out there.

Thank $deities, we are allowed headphones whilst shelving. I seriously would have quit if Boss had insisted on that.
You could do this job standing on your head, but you knew that :-)

I pretty much couldn't have said it better myself. *appropriate icon*
