Good things:

Going to see darwinian_woman last night, who was looking radiant, if in an awful lot of pain. Managed to stay an hour after visiting time and play with a cuddly-toy Darwin.

Good things disguised as bad things:

These guys getting a televised party political broadcast last night, which should split the BNP vote quite nicely.

I see the list of backwards policies on the SCP's wikipedia entry, and wonder how easy it would be to sneak in an even more loopy one...

...then I see the copyright-related policies, and wonder if somebody's not only had my idea but done it more subtly.

If so, it's obscenely clever, as it's scattered throughout the article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Christian_Party#.22So_Macho.22_and_the_gay_community). (Then again, the section just linked to does read like parody.)

I scrolled through the rest of the entry trying to figure that one out--apparently the party founder used to be a songwriter (before he found religion?) and music copyright is a pet issue for him.

Would BNP voters go for a party led by an Afro-Caribbean man? And their party platform, at least as summarized by Wikipedia, doesn't seem anti-immigrant (just crazy in a whole lot of other ways).

I think that there is interest in the BNP outside the anti-immigrant stance; they are also anti-abortion, anti-equality, and supposedly 'pro-family-values'. Certainly the racists aren't going to be jumping ship, but there is more to the BNP than that in my experience (although my experience is biased, I suppose, as I was doing some work on them for a gay rights charity).

God, that really does read like they wrote down their policies on the back of a napkin at a brain storming session in a pub, where everyone was getting progressively drunker and more desperate.
