Because everything created before the year 2000 is comically dated to the point of unwatchability, I am happy that they are remaking the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Oh, wait.

I know that I'm an OULE and a retro-TV fan, and thus my standards when it comes to production values are much lower then those of the general population.. but, really? Does it need remaking? Can it stand remaking?

Unless they get Tony Head back in to play Frank, in which case all bets are off and I adore everyone involved.

Oh god, I heard about this a while ago and wailed. WRONG. And POINT-MISSING. You may as well remake Plan 9.

Though om nom nom Tony Head.

tbh, as someone who doesn't really like it, i don't see why they'd bother - fans will resent it, and i doubt they'll attract much new audiance... Can't see it working.

[livejournal.com profile] geekette suggested James Marsters for Frank. If that happens, I might well melt into a puddle of goo watch it.

Ahem. Yes. I second this.

They should do this. Yes.

First time I heard about this it said it was going to be working *with* Richard O'Brien... and even then I was sceptical. If it's not even got his blessing I can feel any hopes for it sinking into my boots...

I'm looking really hard for something suggesting that those responsible haven't missed the point...

I suppose that the original was in the style of the B-movies of a couple of decades earlier (meaning that they were dated but the audience would still be familiar with them) - so a modern "update" could reference cliched 80's scifi movies for the same trick to work again.

Bets! Bets! Who'd care to lay some bets as to how the new version will differ from the old one?

I'll start by putting my money on... Magenta with sleek, shiny straight hair, and Colombia with her accent ironed out. Anyone else care to advance a wager?

The Duchess of Malfi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Duchess_of_Malfi) survived several centuries of having all the sex and violence cut out and being made into a comedy rather than a blood-up-the-walls tragedy with everyone dying at the end.

Moral of the story: Just because someone remakes your favourite thing and doesn't do it as well doesn't take anything away from your favourite thing unless you let it.

Was Magenta overweight? I never thought so.

Thinner or dangerously skelatal Magenta perhaps...

:O)

Urk. I *really* don't want to live in the world where this (http://www.rockymusic.org/img/rhpsphotoscolor/RHPS-FrankColumbiaMagentaLap.jpg) is considered fat - but I suspect I already do...

's a good moral, and one that I knew already, really.. but I'm still going to sulk if it's rubbish, because I'm a contrary one!
