Date: 2006-11-29 12:42 pm (UTC)Argh. I'm applying. More specifically, I'm applying next year (assuming the grade skip gets passed - if not, the year after) to Oriel College (probably) for Philosophy and Theology. What college are you in - Magdalen, right?
Anyhow - how do you like Oxford, overall? How's the philosophy component of your studying? Are there any colleges you'd recommend (I'm interested in Oriel because one of the tutors there, Dr. Richard Cross, specializes in Medieval Phil/Theo and Christology, but I'm open to suggestions, college-wise.)
I'm awfully nervous, especially since the US preparation is so different, and I'm studying about a billion APs, and there's a philosophy written test, and ahhh! I should have gone to Wycombe when I had the chance..
Anyway, thanks. It's so surreal; when I friended you you were applying to Oxford; now you're in your final year. Time passes.

Date: 2006-11-29 01:58 pm (UTC)I found I liked philosophy a lot less than I thought I would - Knowledge & Reality was dry, philsophy of science was only interesting in as much as it talked about, uh, science, ditto Aesthetics & art. But I have enjoyed the majority of the philosophy I've done - the great thing is how much you do get to choose and specialise in things you like.
And Oxford in general? I absolutely adore. Plan on living here after I graduate, never leaving this square hole which so perfectly fits my square peg. The university can be a cruel and archaic insitution, but the town, and the people, make it all worthwhile.
