oh yes. at midnight. with the freaks & geeks of oxford all condensed into one amalgation of squee. two distinct reviews, i think, are in order.

my response: just as the books get increasingly darker, so do the films. and the issue of their being teenagers and having hormones was dealt with better, i think, than in the books. apart from the slightly gratuitous repeated presence of cedric's father (do the pathos amps go up to eleven?), it generally managed to steer clear of anything terribly clichéd. it was a good adaptation: neville giving him the gillyweed was a masterstroke, and infinitely preferable to dobby turning up again. yes, this film is excellent.

my fangirl response: barty crouch jr's tongue. snape and karkaroff in a cupboard together. i'll show you mine if you show me yours. miranda richardson! gratuitous harry/cedric that was visible to even my non-slashy friends. draco. down. crabbe/goyle's. trousers. snape loosening his clothing in order to punish harry. only 21 weeks until emma watson's legal. harry in the bath with moaning myrtle (cedric stayed until all the bubbles were gone). twins. draco & lucius being hot at the quidditch world cup. AND DID I MENTION THAT DOCTOR WHO IS A DEATH EATER?!
