Boots Natural Collection liquorice & coconut lip cream. would you expect something natural?

Ingredients: Aqua, Cetyl alcohol, Helianthus annus (ooh, sounds herbal, maybe it is natural after all...), Glycerin, Petrolatum, Talc, Glyceryl stearate (ok, clearly not), Steareth-21, Dimethicone, Aroma, Theobroma cacao, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Lactic acid, Methylparaben, Potassium hydroxide, Tocopheryl acetate, Saccharin, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Citric acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben.

Just what I always wanted to be licking off my lips all day, yumm!

but what are all the parabens? and acetate, isn't that plastic?

when i was rushing to a production meeting, did i see a cloud of ohmie and cross-dressing carrying things up broad street? what's going on? i simply must know!

"Natural" seems to be the misnomer of the century. Parabens, which also show up in many a moisturizer, are considered potentially carcinogenic. Then again, living appears to be a potentially carcinogenic practice these days. Petroleum by-products form the base of many moisturizers, lubricants (think of them what you will), and lip products. Nice! "Baby oil" is mineral oil. At BEST the stuff clogs the pores. EDTA's a dodgy one.

Anything seems to pass as "natural" if it contains at least .0001% lavender, aloe, etc.. Isn't cyanide "natural?" It seemed to rub Caryl Chessman's body the wrong way.

Health food stores (if you go in for that hippie hemp granola ) have some nice lip balms comprised largely of ingredients such as beeswax, avocado oil, hemp oil, almond oil, and are "flavoured" with things like pepperment, vanilla, or citrus essential oils. Some work better than others. I just got a nice lemon-lime one that I'd be happy to suck on all day. A downside to the truly natural lip balms is that they can go off more quickly than the "natural" ones. Many of the oil bases go rancid after a few months.

Let's not even get started on anti-perspirants. That aluminium may be giving me Alzheimers and cancer of the 'pit, but it works.
