Jul. 17th, 2005 09:26 pmmuch better than OotP, but, as many have pointed out, it would have been difficult to be worse. This one is up there with GoF and CoS for me, although it doesn't beat PoA. A few conclusions:
- Snape is not evil. Dumbledore knew all about Draco's plans, and when he saw the Dark Mark knew they had come to fruition; I believe he also knew about Snape's unbreakable vow. He instructed Snape to kill him, just as he made Harry forcefeed him the poison.
- Harry is a Horcrux. There is part of Voldemort behind Harry's scar. I held this view before I even knew what a Horcrux was, and am very happy to have some canonical way of expressing it.
- Remus didn't really accept Tonks. I won't have it. I refuse it. There was no build-up or explanation for it. And they're both gay, dammit!
- Tom Riddle is a beautiful, beautiful psycopath. and a magpie.
- Luna Lovegood is a goddess.

Date: 2005-07-17 09:09 pm (UTC)I don't think Harry's a horcrux, or, if so, not an intentional one. Surely this would be a contradiction of "neither can live whilst the other survives"... unless of course we interpret live as being the possession of a complete soul.
Remus did accept Tonks. I've already had one person lamenting the heterosexuality of this book... hate to point it out, but the slash is not canon!
If Luna's a goddess, I insist that she is Eris.

Date: 2005-07-17 09:27 pm (UTC)I think Harry's becoming a horcrux was most definitely accidental. After the Avada Kedrava, Voldemort was throwing his soul about in all directions, trying desperately to save it: and he ended up in Harry. I'd like to think that "neither can live while the other survives" will mean that, at the very least, harry will have to release the horcrux within him in order to defeat voldemort: perhaps he will actually have to die.
I know that slash is not canon, except Remus/Sirius. But I still felt that Remus & Tonks' "relationship" was hideously tacked on, and not really forshadowed by anything.

Maybe in the next book, we'll have more of an insight.

I found it cute; over Bill's horribly mutilated body, love blossomed.
Luna rocks, and I would love to start a Luna appreciation society. Commentary on interestingly shaped clouds. I think I'm in love with her.

Date: 2005-07-19 03:37 pm (UTC)I'd predicted that harry was a horcruxes in advance too, and that it's not Harry specifically, it's the scar. Harry's going to think he has to die to get rid of the Horcruxus, but he's going to be wrong, when he's done, he's not going to have the scar anymore. That's my prediction...
