War of the Worlds:

just say no, kids. there is nothing good in it that was not in the adverts. i thought i could deal with spielberg: i was wrong.

this is coming from somebody who has seen Van Helsing, both X-men films, still really wants to see the Fantastic Four - I have nothing against trashy sci-fi, indeed it's one of my guilty pleasure genres!

but War of the Worlds? trashy in all the wrong ways, cloying, a few stunning vistas/effects but otherwise nothing to keep my interest for 2 hours. my mother, in fact, actually fell asleep in one 30-minute between-action-sequence lulls. the human interest just isn't interesting.

Tom Cruise - b*stard

I'm not seeing it on principle, since I have hated Tom Cruise since he appeared in 'Vanilla Sky'...

Here we get another view of Neil's psychopathic tendencies; 'Vanilla Sky' was a remake of a fantastic spanish movie 'Open Your Eyes' (starring Penelope Cruz ::sigh::) therefore I object to it on principle. My hated for the whole idea of Hollywood remakes has weirdly somehow become transferred to this one movie, and hence onto Tom's head...

Yeah - so I won't even bother to see it, although it looked bloody scaryin the trailers.

Fantastic Four should be great though - I've loved it since the 'Marvel Action Hour' appears on kids TV. Although the 'Silver Surfer' was my fave superhero of all (I actually some of his comic series :S)

Good good, I wasn't planning on giving Tom "There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance" Cruise any of my money; glad to know it's not worth it anyway.

thats what happens when u take a 100+ year old piece of sci-fi history and try place it into a modern day context. then throw in a huge budget, to compensate for the lack of brains, stir in a major movie actor/talentless hack and decorate with a budget that would feed an entire 3rd world country several times over for a year and you have speilberg รก la crapola.

If you couldnt tell, I'm a big fan of good victorian literature...

yes, yes, oh yes. well i'm a frustrated english student anyways, as you probably know. but i've stolen a durham friend's fin-de-siecle reading list for the joy of that historical period: it even has some H G Wells on it.
