today and yesterday i watched the entirety of queer as folk. i'd never seen it before. and, wow. i'm talking about 8 hours of feeling like my world is the real world. not to mention the vince/stuart dynamic, which is one of the most fantastic things i've ever seen on screen. and the ending was gorgeous. who am i kidding? it was all gorgeous. like the pretty boy's fag-haggy friend: 'I'd give him one... if I had one to give him'

two weeks to go and i'm gone.

Forgive me for sounding like I live under a rock [eheheheheh, wouldn't that be a silly notion now, eheh?] but asides from the obivious, what's Queer as Folk about...?

it's a bit soap-like, i suppose, in that it follows the lives of quite a few characters who are more or less connected. but there are three main characters:

stuart who shags everything in sight but is emotionally screwed. he is rich with a big posh job.

vince who's cute and dorky, has every episode of doctor who on tape, is awkward and lovely and works in a supermarket.

vince is in love with stuart, and has been for longer than nathan has been alive. but he's sublimated it so succesfully that they function as best friends.

nathan is 15 years old and just coming out. he is also excessively pretty. on his first night out in the gay centre of manchester, he ends up being seduced by stuart.

and then things happen. like nathan runs away from home, like this really camp friend of theirs thinks he has a beautiful japanese boyfriend who doesn't speak any english - but the word he takes to mean 'love' actually means money - he's a rent boy!

etc. and everyone sounds like my friends and talk about things like how they actually are. and there are gay men who aren't screaming queens and there are lesbians who aren't bulldykes. sure, it has flaws, but it's closer to the real world than anything else i've ever seen.
